What products or services do you offer? Artisan Bath Bombs
How long have you been in business? 2 years
What inspired you to start your own company? Ever since I can remember I was always doing something crafty. Growing up I did macrame, beading, embroidery, ceramics, you name it….I just loved being creative. My daughter is the same way. She’s very artistic and she helps a lot with the business. Making bath bombs is a fun outlet for all our craftiness. We get to work and laugh together. It’s a win, win!
Favorite part of owning your own company? Love working from home with my daughter and designing new bath bombs. Love, love, love coming up with new ideas. My brain never shuts off. It is always in “what’s next” mode. What whimsical, witty and fun bath bomb can we make next that will make people smile? Our goal is to make a product that will put a smile on your face!
What is an obstacle that you found you were unprepared for? Mostly that the business would take over the house, lol! I tried real hard to keep it contained to one room but it has slowly migrated into the living room and the kitchen. I have had to come up with a lot of creative ways to store(hide) all of our supplies. Every nook and cranny in the house is packed to the brim with something bath bomb related.
How do you put your business out there? We currently sell on Etsy and have a website in the works too. We can be found on Facebook and Instagram. We occasionally get out and do a few craft shows throughout the year. It’s nice to be able to meet some of our customers face to face. I also have a wonderful group of friends who show their love and support by spreading the news. You can’t beat word of mouth advertising!
What mobile apps/online resources help your business the most? I’ve joined a few online discussion groups specifically for handmade sellers. The groups are a wealth of information and everyone is very supportive and helpful. If you have a question, they have an answer! My favorite online group is Flourish. It’s such a wonderful community of handmade sellers.
What are your favorite tools to help with workflow and organization? I have a planner to keep track of all our craft shows and jot down ideas. And even though I can view what our sales are online I like to log them daily in the planner. It gives me a sense of accomplishment by writing them down. Then I can just flip thru month to month and get a quick view of them if I need to. I also have a 3-ring binder with monthly divider tabs that I keep all my receipts in that pertain to the business. Makes it a little easier when tax time rolls around.
How do you maintain balance in life? It’s hard, I put in a lot of hours each day. I have a part time job in addition to running my Etsy shop so I don’t really get any down time. But I do try to take a break and do something non-work related for at least an hour or two on the weekends.
Any words of wisdom for people looking to launch a business of their own? I have always loved the quote “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t – you’re right.” You always have to believe in yourself. It doesn’t matter how wonderful all your ideas are, nothing will work for you if you don’t believe in it. It also helps to have some kind of support system whether it’s friends, family or an online group. Find something or someone you can turn to for support. There will be times you are going to need it!
Anything else you would like people to know about your business? I am so very grateful to be able to work together with my daughter creating such a fun product. We hope everyone enjoys using our bath bombs as much as we enjoy making them!
